tin top reverse lamp / mot

Just about to put my focus through the mot test, but the reverse lamp doesn't work.

Is it part of the mot test ?

What could be the problem ? The bulb is fine, If I take it out and use a multimeter, the current is there when I put it in reverse, If I attach a little homemade wires and small warning bulb, it works, and lights up, but when I put a bulb in it won't work ? What causes this ?

Cheers
Scooby

Try another bulb, or cleaning the contacts. If a test bulb works, then the problem is probably your bulb, even if it appears OK when checked.

reverse light is not needed for the mot
i had the same prob when i booked mine for an mot the day before and i ran around every were looking for a switch (which i didnt find before the mot but they said it was fine)
the switch on your could also be faulty as it is not letting the full current through also silly question but have you checked the fuse if there is one

possible corrsion on the contacts - or not making contact with the bulb.

clean and maybe bent the contacts to ensure they touch the bulb - do it woith ignition off so as not to short anyting out.
