Avon Chassis
Could someone tell me if the Avon chassis is the same as the locst chassis in terms of dimensions except for the IRS rear end.
Im after the dims of the engine bay really, to base my ideas. I have Ron Champions book and can use that for dims if they are the same, to this end,
would the Avon body 'drop' onto a locost chassis ? or are the fundamental differences ?
Thanks
James

I'm sure avon builders will reply, though the avon body is not reputed for its quality of fit! I think they are different as the front
suspension arrangement is quite different on an avon (in terms of pickup points and frame design at the nose)
Try and get hold of the tiger avon book which should give you the dimensions you need. Otherwise someone might be willing to share what's in
their copy..

The Avon body doesn't actually 'fit' the avon chassis so very little chance of it fitting anything else. the bodywork is probably
the biggest let down in the entire kit (probably)
Chassis dims and in fact whgole design is quite different to RC's book. engine bay is large enough for a Rover V8 though... apparently.....
The dimensions of the chassis in the original Avon book are wrong so don't go off that, if you are going to get hold of the Avon book make sure
it is the new copy (orange tiger on the front - not red)
Another point about the Avon chassis... the seat width is VERY narrow (much less than an RC chassis, on mine it is barely 38.5cm at it's
narrowest!!) this makes it difficult to get seats for.
and also the rear end of an Avon does not have an 'upper' rail to attach the rear panel to (because of the one peice tub) so you would
need to think about that.
One more thought, the centre tunnel on an Avon is very high which some dislike.
And another thought, leg room - if you are over 6' tall you may have problems.
I have yet to find out for myself but apparently the Avon does handle very well so maybe a well made (home made) chassis would be a good project.
Hope that lot helps

I've been beaten to it.
The body does not drop onto the chassis anyway. Dropping the body however is a good idea.
The body idea was sound, just not the practical application.
