pinto engine freshen up
I've stripped the engine and I'm now ready to rebuild. Rings, which ones are people using, are the standard cheapy jobs worth a try ?
Whats the best way to put them on ?
Engine will have DGAS weber and standard cam so nothing outrageous on the power front.

engine freshen up
just stripped my pinto, as the bores were only slightly worn (approx 50% of limit in haynes manual) I am leaving original rings. (didn't remove
pistons) The 2 Big Ends & 1 mains I dropped were 100%, only wear was on cam probably from extended / infrequent service intervals, oil pump
hardly worn.
So just purchased std replacement cam kit.
One word of Warning:- If you put new rings in a stepped / worn bore you will have to chamfer the top ring or the sharp edge may cause the ring to
break as it just hits the slight ridge at the top of the bore. If you have'nt removed the rings and bores are within wear limits & no broken
rings just put it back together.
You can get oil control ring sets for worn engines, ask an engine rebuilder for advice.
You will need a piston ring commpressor or some thin shim steel or cut up a suitable can & a couple of big Jubilee clips to compress the rings.
When you're up to your ass in alligators you tend to forget the initial objective was to drain the swamp !.

If you put new rings in buy or borrow a glazebuster and scuff the bores before you put them in.
