top ball joint
Hi,
I am Rudy from Italy.
I am building a Tiger Avon.
Does anyone knows ford part number (or lucas, trw, delphi ecc) for top ball joint?
I try some transit 20*1.5 drag link but does not fit on uprights.
Sorry for my english

Hi rudy. Dont worry about your english, it makes perfect sense to me.
What front hubs are you using? Is it sierra hubs? The transit part should fit these fine. What is wrong with the part you have? Wrong taper (slope) or
too short? There are two types of transit balljoint used, and one is often too short.
Sorry, i dont know the part number, but it is known on the forum, and im sure someone will have it soon.
Welcome, by the way.

it's the m18x1.5 drag link you need. keep meaning to write down the QH and delphi part no.s at work, but then forget. it's definitely the
m18 ones you need though.

I am using sierra uprights with gts 2500 insert adaptor, I think hole on insert adaptor is like hole on cortina uprights. Well I do not be able to
find ball joint that fit perfectly on hole adaptor. It must be 20*1.5 and not 18.

why must it be m20?
have you bought the wishbones, as i've never seen a supplier do a set for m20 drag links. m18 is the normal thread, and it wants to be a right
hand thread for both sides.
QD117RHT is the quinton hazell part number, an equivalent being MD117R

how odd. That picture implies that the m20x1.5 thread fits his wishbones, and that the taper is the problem. Where did you get your upper wishbones
from rudy?

My upper wishbones are Tiger original parts. I can tell you with no doubs that are 20 * 1.5 RHT. Everyone who is building a Tiger Avon with original
Tiger wishbones, have to use 20 * 1.5 rht ball joint. The problem is on the taper. There are more than 1 type of 20*1.5 rht transit drag link. I do
not be able to find the right one.
Sorry for my English

Hmmm...I don't know if the taper is the same for Sierra hub adaptors and cortina uprights (others may know?).
This may be where the problem is? (i.e. the Sierra taper is only the same as that of the M18 Transit ball joint not the M20?)
The Avon is designed to use Cortina uprights and as you say, according to the Tiger Book definitely uses M20 Transit ball joints.
Unfortunately it doesn't give a part no.
Have you tried the Tiger forum at www.tigerownersclub.co.uk ?
I'd imagine somebody on there will know the appropriate part no.
Don't apologise for your English, by the way - it is very good. (Certainly far better than my Italian!)
By the way, Good luck for tomorrow night - I think you'll beat France 2-0 at least if Italy continue to play like they did in the last two
games!
Andy.

thank you Andy, I have try also m18 transit drag link to see if taper is ok but it does not fit. I have a friend on a auto parts shop: we try all the
transit (after about 85) drag link m18 and m20 but taper is not ok. I think older transit have taper different from new transit. I think there are two
type of m18 and two type of m20 (it difference on taper). To try older drag link, my friend have to order it for me and if the part he order does not
fit I must buy it however. SO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE PART NUMBER OF TOP BALL JOINT FOR STANDARD TIGER AVON (M 20*1.5) AND THEN I WILL BUY IT.

Tiger did both M20 and M18. Mine are def M20 as I bought a tap to clear the threads.

Rudy,
I asked on your behalf on the main Tiger forum for the part no. but to no avail.
Why not ring Tiger themselves for the ball joint?
If you don't want to buy direct from Tiger, then perhaps, they'll give you the appropriate part no. for you to order from your local motor
factors?
Sue is the the person to talk to for all your Tiger parts. Tel. 00 44 01733 271131
