problem with fitting wheels !!!

hi guys,
this one is a bit weird...

I was fitting my wheels which was a great prospect... The front go on pretty wheel but the back are a cause of concern.

Basically the right rear half shaft is shorter than the left one. The problem is that the 4 hub nuts (with allen key joints) fits nicely with the one i've fittered although the hub joints interfere with the wheel! This makes me think the wheels are too small for the avon or I/ Tiger have done something wrong...

When fitting the left rear drive shaft it gets worst. Drive shaft fits in no problem but the hub as mentioned that has 4 allen key screws doesnt match up which makes me think even the half shaft for that side is too long (how can that be!) or im doing something wrong. I'll take photos torromorrow to illustrate the problem.

Haven't you answered your own question there?

If there Sierra rear drive shafts then 1 is longer than the other, and you've got them on the wrong way round. They do take a bit of compressing to bolt em up

you mite be right there with the half shafts although im sure i tried that and still had the same problem! i'll try again later today, hopefully with a camera...

i'll let you know. any thoughts on the wheels? i'll ask the person i got the wheels off although the bolts fit into the hub which was used as a gauge whether they'd fit.

I'm a little confused by your post as to what your problem is exactly. Pics will help.
Just a thought, but what dia. wheels are you trying to fit?
Have to be at least 14" on the Avon otherwise the rear wishbone/upright assembly will foul on the wheel.

Andy.

cant find the camera at the moment although your comment sounds about right. The wheels must be slightly too small as they are fouling the wheel. I'll try and get some pics in at some point today.

From what I remember the threads that the allen bolts go into only go 1 way up i.e theres a top and a bottom.

That may be another reason they don't line up.

i tried last nite. I've swapped the shafts around now although i ran into another problem!

The brake plates (for the drums) interefer with the hub fitting so they dont the plates dont fit correctly.

Im going to investigate and try and see if theres an extra bit I need between the plate and the hub to make the clearance...

Again 'if only I had a camera' comes to mine

Interfere, can you explain a bit?

There are 2 holes in the face of the hub so you can get 2 bolts in and you then have to pull the driveshaft and hub into the backplate by tightening those bolts up.

Does the heynes help any with diagrams for you, it should be practically the same set-up but with a different style hub to bold it all to.

i've had a word with tiger and i need to sand it down.

the problem is that my rear plates are interferring with the hub so that I cannot fit the plate correctly. Tiger have said I need to sand the corners down on the hub to avoid the bumps on the plates.

Track rod end I think you mean

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
