engine sup question
hi guys,
hope everyone is well and enjoying builds etc..
i have a problem because I need to move my tiger avon asap and unfortunately when I lowered it onto its own weight for the first time the engine sup
was too low on my 2litre zetec engine.
so my alternatives are either I obtain the correct wheels (or basically larger ones) to give more ground clearance as the current wheels are 13"
i think so too small for use when i get to that point.
or my other alternative is to remove the oil sub which leads me onto my reason for posting... is removing the sup easy and wot do I need to remove
it? is it just my socket set and a tray to catch the oil (if any)? and secondly if I remove the sup can I just cover the hole up with a tesco bag for
transport or does that cause unknown problems?
p.s. transport is a trailer obviously, there is no power from the kit car at this point.
many thanks

I assume that you need a quick but not permanent fix....
can you raise the engine on the mounts temporarily?

my mate mentioned this although when on the phone to him I couldnt really see anything that would allow me to raise the engine..? does this require
screwing higher holes in the chassis or some sort of moveable slot type thing? thank you
p.s. this is a quite fix..

The sump is easily removed by undoing all the 10mm bolts that hold it on. Drain the oil first obviously. U should be alble to tape a bin bag or
something over the bottom of the engine.
Can u not wind your shocks up to raise it up?
I would suggest later on getting a 1.8 escort zetec sump or a chopped one.

Ditto or put solid bars in their place with the suspension on full droop. If it still fouls then you've got big probs IMHO

If you do remove the sump then you will probably find that the lowest point is now the oil pickup pipe... you don't want to snap that so may
need to remove it too (although i have never stripped a zetec so don't know for sure)

are you saying if I change the suspension, i.e. tighten it up i guess that this should make the difference? i might try that tonight, and if not then
I'll remove the sump.

Don't know how much (or little) ground clearance ou've got, but if you can, you might raise the engine by putting, say, pieces of 1"
square-tube steel between the engine mounts and the frame, to lift the engine a little. Going to 15" wheels will raise the car another inch,
and tighten up the springs on your shocks to raise it further. That should help a lot...

Sump
Hello,
Reading your threads and hoping that I have not missed the point, it sounds like you have not modified the sump. The sump deffo needs to be cut down
and normally modified to maintain capacity. You will also need to cut down the pick up pipe. this needs obviously needs to be done carefully. I would
suggest you speak with tiger, they can normally do a cost/exchange modified sump.
Hope this helps

hi everyone,
just wanted to say I was able to move the car by fitting the wheels on and then making my own track using planks of wood to give me the ground
clearance.
Unfortunately the location it was being moved from wasnt really a great place for removing the sump but thanks for your sound advise.
Now my avon is where it should be I can start to think about removing the sump or buying my zetec fuel injection... :0)
