I know the FIA rules CDS. So dose this mean the full chassis need to be CDS or can it be a mixture?
As far as I'm aware it's ERW used on all chassis /wish bones etc?
What's FIA got to do with it?
Or are you building a F1 car?
Just double checking don’t want to build something I can’t even use on a track
So it's going to be a competition car?
Or track days?
Weekend toy / track days, mate
ERW is fine
Thanks
CDS will only be for Roll cage elements, and as mentioned, only if competing in MSA based events.
Chassis just needs to be fit for purpose, and as I assume its not being IVA'd, make sure its done well.
I cant remember where I read it , but came across a very interesting article recently regarding erw vs cds or dom.
the basis of the argument was that in a chassis nearly all the forces are longitudinal either compression or extension .
the it makes very little difference if the material thickness is the same . cds and dom only benefit if forces are in bend.
I hope I remembered it correctly , it made sense at the time of reading
