McSorely Plans for Capri Axle
fuzzy!! - 15/10/06 at 08:54 PM

Moving over from the 'donor car' forum so first time here - as an entire novice I could be here for a while !!

I've been directed to the McSorely plans due to my donor Capri axle being wider than the escorts. The plans reference +4" but I believe the Capri axle may only be 2" greater than the Escorts - can I follow the +4 plans blindly? or will the chassis be too wide at +4 ?

I am putting a Capri Atlas axle in a book Chassis.

Been done lots before with or with out the front track to match.

The Capri axle fits the standard chassis perfectly. do you need a wider chassis for personal reasons ? You just weld the trailing arm brackets further in, I did.

fortunately I don't need the extra width - it was just a reference in reply to a donor Capri question I asked.

I was hoping entirely for a book project being my first so this re-assurance was exactly what I needed.

Thx

I assume that the Capri rear end is the same dimension as Pinto/Mustang 2. That is 50.5 inches between the backs of the backing plate or 56.5 inches between the outside edges of the wheel lug flanges.
If you can find Jim McSorley, he has excellent plans for a 2+2+2 frame which fits this rear perfectly.
You might be able to play with wheel offsets to get a nice fit on a standard frame.

Capri is 52" between backplates and fills the rear out nicely on a standard chassis. MkI and II Escorts are slightly narrower, 48.75"ish
