Hello all, am contemplating a BEC in the near future, and after looking about I can see that some have the gear lever in the middle of the car (like a
normal car) and some have paddle type changes. How difficult would it be to convert from middle lever to paddle type, or even button type?
Apologies if this seems a silly question

by contemplating, you mean buying a running car then?
Not too difficult to convert. Just a case of making up new pivots and rods to suit. A lot of paddle change mechanisms are simpler than central levers.
It all depends upon the gearbox lever layout.

We converted from a rod linked gear shift lever on the tunnel, to a cable operated paddle shift. We retained the Sierra switchgear which made it quite
straightforward. It does get slightly more complicated if you do away with the Sierra switchgear though, cos you have to do some re-wiring to the
switches which operate your indicators and lights. Nothing too complicated though.
