want to do a filter and oil change asap
where from and what exact product should i use?
Hi there
I have always used semi sythetic Yamlube from the Yamaha dealer.
It was recommended by them and a guy i know who races Yam superbikes.
You can buy from any Yamaha bike shop
Halfords have a range of castrol bike oils, racing, heavy etc....
I use Halfords fully synthetic bike oil in my R1, their filters too, the bike is ridden very hard - have been known to do a rear tyre in 1000 miles. I've never had any engine or reliability problems in 4 years.
Sometimes, (covering his ass, before the deluge of "ive never had the problem" replys) some fully sinth oils can cause clutch slip, semi
sinth is perfectly good enough.
My turbo'd zzr1100 engine runs fully sinth but i use the uprated EBC clutch plates and stronger springs with no slip, (of the clutch anyway).
I've used Opie Oils before. They sell Silkolene, Castrol and Motul and seem very knowledgeable.
Silkolene PRO 4 10w 40 synthetic is what I use.

Your R1 mill will be quite happy with any appropriately API rated oil of the
correct weight and a filter change. It will not explode or sludge up because you chose the wrong brand. Full synth for extra shear resistance, semi
synth if you aren't that bothered and will be doing changes every 3k on the button.
