zx12r wire id please

Morning guys, hope your not too drunk yet as i need some help with my ZX12R engine loom wiring.

Its the last bit to do on my engine upgrade, ive stripped the loom and removed all the redundant wiring like lights and such. However! i have a few issues i need to sort before i start shortening the loom to fit the car.

1, unidentified wire, from my german wiring document it comes from the 'motomasse' on the side of the gear position switch on the engine and goes to the dash. Black wire with blue stripe, its not the neutral switch as this is lime green so what can this be?

2, I was going to try and use the engines speed sensor to power my learning digital speedo and looking at the diagram the ecu doesnt use this device so if i blow it up nothing will stop working, but again i see that 2 wires go from it to the dash a yellow wire and a pink wire (its earthed in the loom). Does anyone know which is the sensor output wire and what the other one is for (12v or 5v?).

Im making it as neat as possible so shortening the loom is the way to go, moving the relays and sensors next to each other under the dash. Its going to take some time but i hope i can do it ok but what has everyone else done? did you just leave it be and coil it up?

Taking the old wiring out was a pain, i wanted to id all the cables incase i reuse the old engine but im actually enjoying this part as i can stay clean lol

Do you not have the diagram in English as well?? I have an English one which is poor quality but I use it alongside a Dutch one which is really clear. I'm at work at the mo but will take a look when I get home as I'm doing mine at the mo so I have blown it up to 4x size and stuck it on the garage wall.

Which loom is it? ie from which country?

Is it the wire on the diagram that is unidentified or one in the car?

In terms of shortening it, that's basically what I've done. Most of it needed clipping to be re-reouted and untangled anyway so I've shortened it all at the same time.

its a uk model engine, the wire is on the engine and joins the main bike loom and would have gone to the original bike dash (which i havent got). i could just remove it as its not part of the engine management, but i still like to know what it is before i do this.

I wouldn't remove it just yet, I think it's an earth wire but I'll double check

Yes, the Black/Blue wire from the clocks looks like an earth wire to the engine.
Just traced the wire through the loom and on the wiring diagram.
Yes it is an engine earth.
The Black/blue wire becomes a black wire after the last connector to the gear position sensor then comes out of the loom and attaches to a ring tag and screw next to the gear change output shaft on the engine.

Yellow wire to the clocks is the speed sensor sensor pulse (Pin 9 on clocks)
The Pink wire is the Speed Sensor Supply Voltage (Pin 13 on the clocks)

nice one, now i got a english manuel i can see its an earth, but why a unique earth for the dash?

Also cheers for the speedo wire help, does anyone know or who has the bike dash can tell me what supply voltage the speedo uses? is it 5 or 12 volts?

ive spend most of the day in the garage freezing my feet off repositioning the relays and such to fit my car installation. Im almost there now and hopefully might have it all done for the weekend.

Now for a drink.

With +12V applied to pins 14 and 15 of the clocks and -12V applied to pin 12, then the voltage measured at pin 13 should be greater than 7 volts.
Pin 13 being the speed sensor supply voltage.
Warning: Do not short pin 12 to pin 13!!!!

As for the input pulse to the clocks for the speed sensor it looks like a 0 to 5 volt square wave is used to test the speedo.

All according to the workshop manual.

cheers, ive just found some of the testing info in the book. They test it by the way you describe but without the clocks attached and a resistor between the 12volt supply and the sensor output. Is this resistor there to give the sensor some 'load' so it works when testing it or should i add this resistor in my setup too?

Anyway another freezing day in the garage which has let me fit the loom (above the firewall until i take the engine out again to add a hole). In the morning i will connect it to the dash and power it up to look for smoke

A few things need bolting down like the relays and starter box and then all is left is removing the engine and finishing off the welding of the engine mounts and then a lick of paint and its done (a days work), WAY ahead of shedule.
