My engine (fireblade) will be coming out of the car tonight mainly to get a couple of holes filled (electric water pump going in) but was wondering what else (if anything) I should do/take advantage of while I have it out.

Car is used for sprints/hillclimbs so has been drivien hard for short durations last year. Engine is running sweet and never gave me any problems but would be right p'eed off if I put it back in and within 2 months needing something doing on it. Water temp has never been high (except when I broke the water pump housing on the MOT ramp and drove it home without realising - never boiled the coolant though) and oil pressure is always bang on. So this is to be a pre-emptive strike, so to speak, but don't want to spend too much time on the engine as there is stack loads to do before the season starts again.

IMO, japanese bike engines are best left alone whilst they are running well, start pulling them apart and you'r looking for trouble.

You could check the valve clearences, and clutch linings, and check for signs of leaks and weaps, but otherwise I'd leave well alone.

I can't see that theres anything you could do that's going to guarantee it not going pop, so I 'd leave well alone short of oil and filter?

I'd leave well alone personally, as long as you are doing regular oil and filter changes, and nothing untoward is in the oil then, leave it as is - only adding to the possibilty of introducing a problem if you drop something in there, or put it back together wrong.

You might want to look at clutch plates/fibres/springs after all the heavy handed starts you will have been doing off the line.

As for the heavy handed starts - you haven't seen me drive!! They don't call me the turtle for nothing!

Just to buck the emerging trend above, turbocharge it!

You know the engineer's mantra - if it isn't broke, fix it until it is...

Just a thorough visual check for any oil/water leaks and wear and then drop the engine back in.
