Just failed SVA fr the second time on noise, although the emmisions is now sorted. Anybody got any tips for getting the noise down. I am running a
foam filter and a long 6" can. Gonna put on an airbox on, put a decibel killer in the exhaust and lag the engine bay with acoustic foam. Any
other tips would be good. The car is a RAW striker with no holes in the bonnet. Gonna be a nightmare when IVA comes in as noise will be 98 Db

Oh I should have mentioned my first test with my exhaust was 104 dB and the second ne with a borrowed exhaust from cranbrook kit cars was 108 dB
My first was 108 with a carbon can, then 101 just with the R1 can. We proved that most of the noise however was from the engine bay itself rather than
the exhaust. The decibel killer didn't make alot of difference at all tbh.
Lagging the engine bay I think should have the desired effect. Mine was a 919.

Airbox for induction noise.
For exhaust noise the question is whether you will be re- tested on emissions. If not then a double silencer may do the trick. ie two small silencers
rather than one.
Has the exhaust you got tested have a cat? These seem to drop the dbs well.

its all induction, the airbox will kill the noise.

are you sure his eqipment is ok i got 92db on my SVA standard r1 airbox turned around and the large MK cat exhaust can they have for hire
Also the borrowed 6" can make sure that it has not had the glass fibre sound dedening material blown out,
is it fully compat but not too tight etc, should have been ok with that size of can if a decent length also,
but yes induction noise should help,
there ar no vibratring pannels etc also,
and is the engine popping at the test rpm if so this can have a bad effect on the readings
good luck
All the vibration has been delt with after first SVA, fingers crossed I will get the airbox in the next few days and see what effect that has, just been out in the garage and the noise is definately cming fromthe engine bay
have you put an SVA map on it? if have one if not.
trust me on the airbox thing, the induction noise is mental on my engine.
Thanks for the offer of the map, should be OK as I am only being tested on noise now. Cheers
