Hi All,
On Friday I had a very good chat with an SVA Tech Guy about my build and my plans and he has told me basically that there is no way on earth with my
current plans that I will get any plate other than a "Q".
So my only other option would be to make my complete own chassis a bit like the MK Mini one and then use all new stuff to get a new plate. Then I can
stick a private plate on it to make it look old again.
I am a bit gutted as I think a "Q" plate Mini would look very wrong indeed.
So looks like I now need to work on an entire frame. This sould be fun!!! lol
What would you do in my situation?

Nah only kidding! Id build frame inside a mini, cut the mini into bits and then cover the frame it carbon fibre panels!!!
Either that or buy a new mini shell for about 3k.
Either way costs are the same!

Weel the cheapest option and the route i would take would be to get a Q plate but if you want to do any shows, get a show plate in an old style.
Another option, although not very road legal, would be to get the old style (pre 73 i think) black and silver plates to make it look old.
i'd go for the Q plate myself. sure you can't have a private plate on it, but for some reason i like a Q. especially on a car that looks like a normal production car. has a bit of mystery about it
that is not good news is that just because you are not using enough ornigal parts to keep the old number plate?
what i am doing i am hoping to keep the same number plate and just change the logbook and get it mot'ed
lets us know what you decide.

do you have to have it sva / iva'd

how much do you have to do to the chassis before it has to be SIVA'd? who decides when it needs testing? surely a BEC mini could be taken as just an engine change? cuttin out the boot floor isn't a major chassis mod is it? you're not cutting the sills, not shortening or lengthening the chassis, so....
ah i see. just after watching 'an MG is born' today, and saw the amount of work in replacing panels and sills and boot floor and chassis rails, just got me wondering why it wouldn't be SVAd and Q plated
I should clarify that if I was replacing the floor or keeping it ORIGINAL that would be OK. But as I plan to cut the boot floor out and put a tunnel
down the middle I will not really be able to argue that it is original/unmodified/as designed.

It's just a reg plate - why worry about it, you won;t see it from the drivers seat and it won;t go and slowwr for having it.
Kee it simple and cheap and cinvince yourself to live with the Q Plate
i see your point as i have been reading this months PPC mag. it has a detailed/useless article with the mysterious DVLA. basically PPC were asking
valid questions followed by pathetic, varied answers about whether or not an sva is needed.
Also what about all those Zcars minis driving about? im sure if they needed an sva that Zcars would not be a big concern as they are now. And im sure
i heard that Mr Allinson (zcars chief) seems to think an sva is not needed?

Zcars themselves do say that it should be SVA'ed.

This is such a grey area concerning BEC Mini's. Some Z-cars are SVA'd some are not.
Personally I'll be SVA'n / IVA'n mine if I ever finish it and will take whatever plate I get. I'm not too bothered about a
"Q". Its more for insurance/plod/resale issues I'll be going that route anyhow.
Come to think of it why do you lose points for rear subframe removal ?
What about a beam axle conversion, does that count ?
As I said this is such a grey area, I'm going to wait till the time comes and deal with it then.

DVLA regs state you MUST have both sub frames. One sub frame equals 0 points
I think I will just have to take the Q then. It will be the far least costly option. Just gotta motor on now for SVA 
I do not want to do IVA. The
SVA Tech Guy was not happy about the IVA at all. But that is another thing you can thank Tony Blair for as it is forced by Europe. They are no where
near ready but it is statue law and they MUST comply.

Aren't you allowed one reconditioned part to 'as new' standard? If so, could your chassis be the reconditioned part? OK, so you'd
have to buy a new engine and provide a receipt but if it's that important.....................

Not sure about the chassis Hellfire. I already have the blade engine. Gawd knows how much a new engine would cost 
I think I just will have to
accept the Q and get on with it.
