To save funds, i have opted for an R1 engine instead of a ZX1200R... even though people tell me the R1 will have little torque.
If i buy the engine, loom etc, what else do i need once fitted to the car?
Uprated clutch?
Type of sump?
Catch tanks?
with the engine and looms you also need all the sensors, clocks and air box joiners check you get it all as it adds up if you dont.
What year is your R1. At a guess a barnet uprated clutch spring might be worthwhile but is easy to change when fitted to the car so not really
necessary right now. You will want to use a sump baffle as if its going rwd you have rotated the engine and need it to prevent oil starvation. Im not
using a catch tank, just a breather filter for the time being till through sva. You may want a power commander/dyno jet kit to get it through
emissions with a cat.

But dont think r1,s are not torquey.
I have one in a striker and it pulls 6th gear from really low down and if you do floor it itslike going into hiperspace!!! its the maddest car I have
ever driven,
also depends on diff and wheels iam ruuing 13 inch wheels with 3.54:1 dif

Who ever told you the R1 engine is not very torquey is wrong, they are a brilliant engine and need little doing to them to put them in a car.
They are also probably the most common so that says it all.
My 05 R1 is mental it will happily accelerate in 6th gear at 30mph and I'm using a 3.38 diff and 15" wheels.

As above R1 has enough torque. More would be nice but it's not a problem. My car is pretty high geared with a Freelander diff. It'd still
out accelerate my prevoius Alfa 2.5 V6 from 40mph (3500ish revs) in top. Drop it 4 gears and its mental.
Setting off takes some getting used to but once you've done a few miles it's not a problem. I had my 120kg brother in mine last week and it
pulled away on a 10% hill start without noticing.

Cheers guys, you have convinced me with the R1.
Engine will 99% come from Malc.. so complete with everything.
Need a bit of torque because out of my garage and i have to go up a steep drive.
Using my Techcraft can, car doesnt need an SVA etc.
My Westfield is independant and has an alluminium diff with a Westfield stamp on it. How do i know what ratio it is with my 14" Minilites?
