Noise reducing tips
marmot0 - 4/2/09 at 02:49 PM

Have my SVA retest on Friday after failing on Noise (108dB). The engine is a CBR954.
I have now fitted the following:
Airbox
Restrictor in the exhaust.
Lagged the engine bay with accoustic foam.
Can anybody think of anything I have missed
Cheers

Do you have things rigidly mounted?

like engine, exhaust etc? If you can reduce the amount of vibration that resonates around the chassiss that might help!

fit a bigger silencer. Really, it is the best way.

if its mounted rigid then the car body becomes a loud speaker. I did this on the Falcon with the v6, utterly horrable racket right through the whole car, changed it to rubber mounts, quiet as a mouse

If you have can, rotate the tailpipe end so it points to the ground or even back uner the car away from the testers sound meter.

Ever seen a Jensen Healey engine bay?

They have / had a silencer before the airbox!

Good luck with the test.

How about deadening some panels with acoustic material? Get it off the bay for a few quid and stick it to the inside of thin panels. Kills the reasonance.
