Best chassis for a Hayabusa?
bitsilly - 10/3/09 at 10:53 AM

Have pretty much decided to go the hayabusa route, ideally with a supercharger.
I am looking at old Caterhams to convert as some of the old racers are a good price, but for the money I could build my own locost type. Does anyone know which chassis does the best job with this engine? I know pretty much all of them probably take a hayabusa but I would like to avoid re-inventing the wheel if possible. The final car will be as light as possible but with a full cage and track bias but road registered.
I hope this is not seen as one of those light the touchpaper and run threads! I'm not stirring, just curious!

One other consideration is to avoid BIVA I may buy registered kit and transplant??

Any thoughts appreciated.

you'll get 101 opinions...

i'd say a striker - but then I'm biased having owned and raced one, i know how capable they are....

The best chassis for a Hayabusa engine is a Suzuki Hayabusa frame!

I'd recommend the MK Indy Spec R.

MK Sportscars have a Busa powered Indy R running in the B.A.R.C Championship this year.

The most radical Busa fitment I've seen is the turbo'd beast that appears in the glossy mags owned by Duncan Cowper ?. There are several incarnations each more radiacal than the last. Current reported car claims >1000BHP/tonne.
The point is all have been the same car - DAX Rush.
Seems he may be the one to consult in respect of big power and the intrinsic problems encountered.

Do people fit superchargers to bike engines?

I was under the impression a supercharger wasn't used for going above about 8000rpm. Which would seem an issue with a bike engine.

I know of two supercharged R1 BECs, both owners swear by them.
I don't know of any supercharged busas, but since starting this thread a few people have suggested a supercharged R1 may be quite a bit lighter and far cheaper and so a better bet??

gixermark - 10/3/09 at 06:10 PM

what are you looking to use the car for ??

i can't see much point in a turbo or supercharger unless its straight line 1/4 mile type thing ???

unless its that - or you just want the technical challenge to do it AND make it realiable I wouldnt bother..
