hi, can any one help i have just noticed that the out put shaft appears to have a bit of end float. Any one know if this is normal or is something loose in the gaerbox?

Sounds like a bearing to me (not knowing the engine though). Which way is the float? Up / down etc or in and out of the box?

End float = in/out... worn thrust washer somewhere inside maybe??

I would expect that it's normal

How much play have you got in the shaft?

If you can measure / describe the direction of play a bit more I can compare it to mine.

Cheers

The float is along the line of the shaft in and out, I would say 4 mm which i think is a lot. although the engine runs ok with no noise. it only came to my attention when i bolted on the new prop.

Hi Stephen

I've just been out and checked mine. No end float at all on the output shaft.

I've checked the manual too, and it doesn't give a tollerance either.

Sorry.

However, I do have two complete spare gearboxes if you need them, plus all the bearings etc.

Let me know if you need anything.

Cheers

Mike

Just thinking, is it definately the output shaft moving?

When I first fixed my prop adaptor on, the nut wouldn't lock it in place. The thickness of the adaptor was a couple of mm less than the splined length on the output shaft. So I have a spacer washer inside and an extra lock washer on mine.
