Now these primadonna F1 drivers know just how much fun a BEC can be

?
Its a new regenerative braking system that can be put onto F1 cars as an option.
They arent all using it at themoment though.

Dynamos have been around for years. Same principal, just applied differently.
By the way, it took me about 5 minutes to figure out what your talking about!
My stepdaughter does the same, and will come out with a completely random question like "so what do you think" and doesnt actually realise
shes not thinking out loud!!!
What is this KERS exactly. I've had a quick look and it allows the vehicle to store around 60 kW of energy which is gained through kinetic energy
and they're allowed to use it as a boost? Around 6.6 seconds per lap.
How are they going to boost the car with this energy though?

Racecar Engineering : F1 Basics - How KERS works
I still don't understand how it actually works, is it an F1 secret?
I think that it transmits it through to the crankshaft. Is it just a heavy torque force applied directly to the crank?
Sounds a bit 'Need for Speed F1'. Be intersting to see if they can make each engine last around 3 races as they say with that extra
stress.
