Is it necessary for the long thin actuator rod to be able to "spin" or rotate freely both when depressed (actuated) or free ?

I know, should be out of garage by now but I'm not............

My reason for asking, is this a non starter ?

cant see why it wont work all its doing is pressing on the basket so why would it need to turn. ive gone hydraulic and its tight against the slave cylinder so theres no movement in mine either. put it in gear and try.

Rotation of the clutch push rod is NOT good for the clutch push rod seal. if it rotates, it is because the gear shaft, that it sits in, has picked it up and it now turns with the shaft. This is common but it should be stationary with the clutch released i.e no pressure on the pushrod. . an oil leak from the pushrod oil seal is indicative of a spinning push rod.

So what your saying is no it should not rotate nor does it need to ?
