New idea for electric reverse/hybrid
rf900rush - 17/4/09 at 02:38 PM

Hi
Been thinking on this one for the last couple of years now.
Now, may be possible.

As the "made in china" model aero brushless motors are getting bigger and cheaper, time has come to put them to use in our BEC's.

Now put one of these 6-7Kw (9bhp) were the Quaife gear box goes and use it for reverse, thee run it the normal way and hey presto 9bhp more forward.

Would this meen it's now a hybrid and qualifies for less tax etc.

Just needs a good controller design and some good engineering.

Or even better just use the £5000 Gorden Brown is promising to make it all electric.

that is a sexy motor.

Budget KERS

That's a very nice looking but very small motor. It may well put out 9 BHP but for how many seconds? The duty cycle is going to be a very small fraction.

Plus it's going to need 48v for that output.

I've had a miniture one of these in a small RC plane. Don't under estimate what they can do.

Just compare petrol motors at the start of the 20th century and then 2009 R1 engine.

These are very effiient and compact.

Just look here for an example, and the above motor is proberly 10 times bigger.
