I presume you are all using a U.S. spec ECU with no immobilizer on 5VY R1's. If so did you have to alter the injector and coil wires at the ECU?
(pins 1,2,3,5,6,7,8&23).
I am just trying to find the cause of a strange fault I have and want to make sure this is correct.
Cheers
Stu.
Might help if you tell us what the "strange fault" is.
Is this a problem with firing order? If so, are you counting the cylinders from the right end No4 is timing chain end. No1 is left/kerb-side cylinder
when mounted in the bike.

The "Strange fault" is that the engine will run perfect then without reason or warning it will go sick and will not idle, if I am on light
throttle e.g. 30mph through a village when it goes sick it will stutter, misfire and if I lift off the throttle and dip the clutch it will stall, very
annoying when in traffic. The engine will restart but will be the same however if I turn the ignition off and on again it will then run perfect but
has sometimes gone wrong again a short while after and other times it's been OK.
I am just trying to think of why this would happen as it seems to be an electrical fault with something as it seems to reset when the ignition is
turned off and on again.
I wouldn't have thought the engne would run if I had the wiring wrong it is just the instructions I got with my ECU said to alter the injector
and coil wiring at the ECU plug which I have done.
The other strange thing is that if I unplug the power commander it hasn't gone wrong at all. I have a map thanks to a fellow member on here that
was setup with very similar setup to mine.
I am wondering if there is possibly a fault with the power commander or a wiring mismatch somewhere causing the power commander to play up.
I would like to know if anyone else has altered their wiring for use with U.S. ECU as if not I will change the wiring back to normal and try it this
way.

My loom and ECU were supplied with the engine from Yorkshire Engines. I assume it's a US one as there's no immobiliser but it came
"plug+play". Don't know if wires had been swaped or not.
The fact that it's ok without the power commander would tend to point to that, but could be a red herring.
It's not just some crap floating about your tank and getting drawn over the pick up then un-blocking when the suction goes pipe is it?

Sound like something to do with the PowerCommander.
I'd re-calibrate the TPS with the dynojet software as a starter. This can cause wierd running problems at idle.
I did recalibrate the TPS when I loaded the latest map as it was not right. I will check it again incase it has changed.
It could be some crap in the fuel system somewhere but what is so confusing is that it is ok after the ignition is turned off and back on.

Hopefully the problem is now fixed. I got some info off yorkshire-engines on here and it seems the instructions I got with my ECU are wrong (engine,
loom and ECU not supplied by Yorkshire-engines). They said to alter the injector and coil wires at the ECU plug when infact you only need to alter the
coil wires.
Went out most of the day Sunday and it performed faultless
where as before it was playing up everytime it was driven. Will need to take it out a
couple more times to fully test it but fingers crossed it will be OK.
Thanks to Malc for the info.
