Hi all,
I am building a haynes roadster using a honda blackbird engine and a car electric starter moter for reverse
Can i use a car battery since most moterbike batterys seem like they dont have enough Amp hours plus they are very expencive compared to car
batterys??
If i cannot use a car battery what would be a good recomended Bike battery??
Thanks Tilly

If your using a car starter, you're gonna need a car battery too
Get yourself an oddessey or redtop battery. They aren't cheap, but compared to a normal battery, their cranking amps are very high.
Also weight is an issue on becs so you can save some here over a standard battery.
Just make sure you get an intelligent charger like a CTEK to look after it while it is laid up.
That car starter will kill a bike battery in no time, just fit a budget car one
Ok that all sounds very good,
Iv heard that car batterys can somehow damage the alternater on a Bike engine by overloading them or something .... is this just a load of tosh or is
there some fact in there??

and an oddessy will be very very very expensive comparwed to a car battery
But, if you can afford one then as said, top kit
I have a Red Top 25 in my car, it has handled the zetec starter all through the build and one year past SVA has never had a charger on it.
As long as you don't drive all the way to Tesco in reverse I would suggest it will be fine.
Steve
I ran a std bike battery with electric reverse, as long as engines running whats the problem, reverse will be selected for what, 10 seconds max ?
Am I missing something, never had a problem myself ?
ok thanks very much for all the help people
