Nearly there with Acumen DG8 Gi (now fitted - yippee)
Kriss - 27/5/09 at 11:35 PM

After spending the evening mostly trying to pick up a decent tacho feed (currently the coil with a wire wrapped round) we have now tapped into the injector pulse. result, nice steady tacho feed!

we tapped everything else correctly, neutral, ignition, ground but tapped one of two speedo pulse wires in the Koso dash loom. Got the wrong one first!

all looks to be wired in now but its too late to test if its all working after one complaint from my dad!

I am really chuffed, I bought the car made to my spec as i thought i could never attempt it. but i have done loads of jobs now with a friend who built a wetiemegabusa and feel sooo much more confident in myself and the car!

will update as to how acumen learning/teaching goes

I have to say that I am a bit disappointed with my DG8 as it does have trouble keeping up with actual gearchange. Even in Neutral it seems to only show N when I move the paddleshift to just before changing gear, even though I have tested the N switch works with the paddleshift at rest, otherwise it just shows "-".
I calibrated it by jacking the wheels off the floor, but I feel it will be easier on a rolling road.
The rpm connection is off the coils (same as the VR2) and the speed connection off the standard bike engine speed sensor. The VR2 speed is off it's own single magnet which would not drive the DG8. (I gather that there is not enough magnets for the DG8).
The VR2 gauge seems to follow the gearchanges better than the DG8.
I need to try and re-calibrate on rollers before I give up though.

We tapped intot he injector which gives a lovely feed for Tacho
Speedo is tapped off the Koso pick up which uses 4 magnets/pulses
Neutral tap displays a "0"
Ignition and earth are fine as it lights up.

Will see how it all goes tonight.

Any suggestions as to where to mount it? Thinkiing of between my aeroscreen so its a bit hidden and in the shade?

It doesn't matter where you mount it as it has a light sensor which makes it change brightness. It was made for bikes with no roof afterall!

Well, its in and temp fitted to the aeroscreen, will drill and secure when I choose the best position for it.

Works pretty well. Takes a few seconds to show the new gear after changing, and sometimes when cruising in middle gears it fluctuates between 4 & 5. All in all very happy the a) me and my mate wired it in, and b) it works unlike Chris Derby said that it would never work on an R1! Fool!
