Decided to drive car into work today - gearshift started to feel a bit woolly on the way in.....got into car park to find that the gear stick itself
has started to shear at the weld where it meets the cross tube in the tunnel....hope that it'll last to get me home again or it could be a run
home in 2nd

just don't tell anyone at work or you'll never live it down if it comes off
my knob dropped off once... right bloody farce

happened to me once ("gear" knob, thank you very much!). I had a Westy where the gear stick had been cut off and rewelded at an angle, It broke at the weld, leaving about an inch of stick. Luckily the box was nice and smooth, so I managed to drive home OK.
HAPPENED TO ME ON SUNDAY
my knob came off in my hand ...i thank you

Just made it, but had to do a lot of stirring to find some gears - found that you can pull away in 3rd....
Same happened to me after Id had it about a month
Gear linkage felt like you said then it went in 2nd.
Got it home and had it welded much stronger

seems a common problem I had my car for a couple of months when I was out just driving into a petrol satation -as you do when you have a bec. just
changing down and hey presto gear knob and lever in my hand but not attached anywhere else!!! drove straight out of the petrol station and drove home
in 3rd.
the lever broke at the bottom where the thread starts.
still easi fix re threaded lever and got the old bit out with an easi out!!
good luck with your fix
Paul
mine did it the second day on rd last week been out all day givin it some pain lots of gear changes and went out on my own later on at nigh and it
snapped off at 12000 going into 3rd but gave me a false neutral thought id killed gear box till i lifted bonnet and touched broken leaver and it
popped into 3rd phew
well least it will pull away in 3rd and still brake the speedllimit
