Breather vapour after a spirited drive?
leemarkadams - 13/6/09 at 11:45 AM

Hello all, managed to take the R1 Indy out for a bit of a spirited drive today and when I got back I noticed it was breathing a bit from the hose on top of the gearbox housing, at least thats what I think it is (a hose that comes out!), it was breathing even idling. Is this Ok or should I be a bit concerned?

Thanks

Lee

You will need to fit a catch tank to see if it is oil or just water vapour.
All engines "breathe" a bit.

I wouldn't be concerned at all mines always breather fairly heavy even more so now its turboed!
My breather goes into a catch tank but have never found any oil in the tank so unless your losing oil out the breather i wouldn't worry.

Thanks, looks like a catch tank is in order then, where is the best place ( reasonably priced) to get one?

Kitchen cupboard, old tin or my case Morrisons stainless biscuit tin for £2.99.

Just punch an in hole and an out hole in the lid, I used a grommet on the ‘in’ hole so the venting hose was a snug fit pushed within this and put a breather on the exit that was laying around.

My car breathes a lot when really hot, just tired I guess.

An old ally cycling drinks bottle and a cheapo ebay filter. Rescued attachment chrome_bw2.jpg
