Can you get a free flowing and quiet exhaust can for locost money?

R1 can = Fairly quiet but restrictive.
Scorpion Race can = Free flowing but loud.

How do you make a free flowing can quiet? Is it possibe or do you just have to live with a loud exhaust to gain power?

Hi Matt, i had same problem as you, in the end i went for a mk repackable can, from the advise of others on here, it is a straight through design, non restrictive,, and quiet, all i get is the induction roar off the carbs and still get good power, quiet enough for track day' s too which passes noise level's, about £185 from mk sport cars, hope this help's.

regards r1 bob

Take the cat out of the R1 can?

Matt,
whilst not likely to ruin your day on the queens highway,
noise seems to be an increasing problem for track days.
Was at Cadwell last week and an indy with a 1000 motor failed the noise test (which wasn't the most stringent -105dB). fortunately he managed to increase the sound reduction by drilling the tailpipe full of holes and wrapping the outside with silencer packing material which got him through. Looked like a field dressing strapped to the exhaust, but hey it worked.
Not sure he could have got his money back if he was not allowed on track - 150 quid for the day, ouch!
As another point of contact speak to
Martin Keenan, (no longer directly involved with MK Sports cars) also makes exhausts from scratch that will go through SVA. Nice bloke and extremely helpful, exceptional value for money.

Was told that it was not very restrictive as it is really small?

Depends on the individual R1 can - some don't have a cat in them (maybe depends on the year? - I think some had them in the can, some separate)
