On the way back from the shops, I entered the traffic light grand prix in my Triumph Daytona (~130bhp in the bike)powered 7, against what I thought
was a stock Clio Sport. I was all over him in 1st and 2nd, but missed the change to 3rd, so he pulled away. Through the rest of the gears I
didn't lose anything until the aerodynamic wall where he pulled away strongly, so I backed off as I wasn't prepared to o chasing at the sort
of speeds he was doing.... I was with the mrs, with a full tank of fuel, and a weeks shopping, but I still thought I would wee all over him! His car
was running a meaty exhaust, R888s and had a 'ring sticker, so I wonder what he had done to the engine, as he was clearly a serious trackday
monkey.....!
So, should I be worried, or was I expecting a bit much of a fully laden BEC, still running on the SVA map, with the SVA silencer and cat? Or should I
start looking for that Busa/ZX14 lump now!?
here come the excuses, "the misses was with me" & " we had a weeks shopping on board" & "i missed 3rd gear" boo
hoo! you lost!
supercharged busa! and your car is very slow by the way, y don't you upgrade to 4 cylinders
it had to be done!

Fully laden BEC? My GTS is quicker than a BEC with 2 people in...
The extra weight makes a huuuuge difference to what is otherwise a very light
car!
So I wouldnt worry too much.
I got a bit worried when I tried to keep up with a clio sport in the mini the other day. He didnt leave me but I wasnt gaining much either...
how fast are 05 lagunas? I pulled fast away from the lights (as per) and he overtook me! I planted my foot and clawed it back.
Vs a family car I'd expect to obliterate! I guess thats the 102000 miles
time for a rebuild to up that compression.

Erm well yeah I would be worried!
I work for Renault and know the renaultsport well. Depending on the model the later R197 or R200 both weigh around 1280kg. They make as the name
suggests and all do 0-60 in about 6.7/6.9 secs. Top speed they'll do ya but acceleration isent amazing imho.
My mate has a Pug 106 Rallye S2 with a 16v conv. and can out run me in my brand new 'Alien Green' R200 with cup chassis.
My low powered BEC destroys the R197/200 and the Pug and thats 2 up (im 14st)
Im quite surprised reading what you said! Maybe it was heavily tuned??

Go and stand in a corner and reflect on what you've done. By missing third gear you've brought shame and embarrassment on the BEC community.
How could any car possibly be faster than a BEC? He must have had a twin turbo and have caught you unaware whilst carrying your half ton of potatoes
from the supermarket......... Go and find where the chav lives and challenge him to a drag race........

Passengers do make a big difference in a BEC. I'm always surprised how much a difference it makes.
Luckily this PM I was ragging it round my neighbourhood solo stylee
Laying black lines all over the shop!!
I was out in my buddies Clio on Sunday. Its a modified 182, puts out around 195bhp. Weighs in around 900 kgs. So its hardly the worst car to loose
to. Its not like a 1.2 Corsa bashed you in
Assuming you can remember where you left the gears, you'll have to drive around abusing people at traffic lights until you've reclaimed your
lost pride

Amazing just how much weight can affect it really!
also think missing a gear is quite a key point, suprising how much momentum that will loose for what seems like a split second, as can be seen in any
race situation, if its a keen clio though 200bhp+ is quite easy with just throttle bodies and cams.
have a friend with a stripped out track day clio with that spec and its quite rapid
He's probably in the pub right now laughing his cock off and bragging about it,
tony
Let's be honest, missing a gear in a bec [or on a bike] isn't exactly an unusual occurence!
Only been beaten once at traffic lights....
Must not try and pull away in 4th.
Are the daytona's are only 3cylinder 700cc about 50ftlbs of torque,so 2 up,full of shopping, and missed a gear,I would have been most upset if you
had passed me in my standard engined clio sport

Just pulling your leg bit mate
,Ive had a blade engined s7even,and now have a clio sport,my fireblade car which would be around the same performance
as your daytona,up to 100mph from a standing start, you should have no problem beating the Clio sport, the s7ven will change direction better, corner
better, come out of corners better, and out brake the Clio, although they are quick little cars, they are no match for a well driven s7ven on the road or
track.
The Clio sport would be faster from 80mph to 140mph than most 1000cc bike engined cars though.

Not only was a BEC beaten by a road car it was a front wheel drive road car!!!
As said though, unless you were in the twisties your car wouldn't have been in it's sweet spot.
If you are running an SVA map, it may be way out considering that you are running a new cam and missing 3rd was the nail in the coffin.
....................beated by a front wheel drive
Steve
More importantly, how the feck do you get a weeks shopping in a 7 ?
Beaten by a Clio, my mam will be happy
Unfortunately I didn't take my camcorder with me on Saturday to Llandow. There was a Clio Sport on track but it didn't put up much of a fight. I was after more extreme cars such as an Audi 1.8T engined Elise and fully optioned Exige S2 with the supercharged Toyota engine and Ohlins suspension. Actually the only car on the day to make my car look slow! The Audi/Elise was certainly quick but broke when I was following it after a coupe of laps.
o well feel you mite need to ring malc for a zx12r engine this will solve all problems lol
if it makes you feel any better i was beaten by a standard clio sport too
in my vito
thank you all for your supportive and helpful comments....!
A weeks shopping is easy (despite no boot). You load up the passenger footwell, the space behind the passenger seat, and the Mrs then holds the rest
very tightly! She couldn't see where we were going due to the large shopping bag on her lap! I decided not to buy a crate of beer - I don't
think she would have been too keen!
im sure when you see that clio again you will beat him (in a race).
also just looked through your archive
very nice build indeed
To be fair the other car which has made my Striker look slow on track was another Striker with a Hayabusa. I have more power now but the extra weight in mine would still put me at a disadvantage.
There's still no shame in being passed by a Clio,as at least they follow the BEC ethos of fairly light weight, and a quite powerfull engine, and I
still can have as much fun in my £2000 Clio as I did in my £12000 BEC's,but as much as I enjoy it, like I said before, its never going to be as
quick as a well driven S7ven
But here's a video of mine from my last weeks outing at Cadwell,my chav car on track might be of interest to some of
you.

Update - I have found out who owns the Clio. My neighbour is mates wth him! It is running ITBs, cams, full zorst etc. Apparently, it is puttin out ~240bhp, but don't know if that is true...!? Eitherway, he is arranging another meeting, this time, minus the shopping!
say goodbye mr clio driver ha ha ha
it sounds like its had some pennies thrown at it.
funnily i was offered a race by a lad in an astra turbo t'other day
but first he showed me the dyno print out showing it was 300 bhp.
sat at the lights (on my private road)
when they went green i i set of with some mega wheelspin into second more wheelspin
got to the end of the road and about 30 seconds later the astra pulled up
its now for sale and he is looking at buying a bike engine 7

just out of interest whilst we are talking of speed, how quick to 100 should my mnr votrx fireblade be with just me an a half tank fuel, it's a
1998 carbed engine with a flatshifter installed, just curious as i am gonna time it this week sometime
