R1 neutral switch - does this look broken?

Neutral switch
Neutral switch

My neutral light has never come on - however it did for a short while a couple of weeks ago during a drive. Then, depending on the idle mixture screw settings it either flickers or goes off. So it seems like vibration is doing something weird?

By earthing the neutral sender wire I get the neutral light to come on (i.e. bulb is fine). When the neutral switch is attached outside of the gearbox and I press in the brass fitting at the end, the neutral light does not come on - should it?

One more thing, there is some freeplay. Springy resistance is felt only when you push in the switch a few millimetres (it is at that point above in the picture). So you can actually extend the centre part outwards by shaking the switch.

So, is the switch broken?

Thanks

James

Mines the same as yours....broken! Mind you I have bypassed all the bike safety circuits so mine will start wether it is on or not

Where is the best place to get a replacement switch from?

Sounds broke. I was told it's a common failure on an R1.

Yammy dealer or spares place for a new one but will cost the best part of £30+ if I remember right.

could try malc at yorkshire engines

Hmm doesn't look too promising then!
My neutral switch is bypassed and I don't really think its worth getting another switch at the moment - its quite easy to get neutral on my engine. Ah well!
