Bike engine emissions

After lurking when a mate has been on here, I thought Id dive in myself....

So Hello!

I might have access to a part built project, and want to convert to BEC if possible

I have worries about emissions- the engine im thinking about has carbs, and the engine has a Cat when used on the bike

Is this possible to get past IVA? do I need to fit the cat or not?
Where is the cat normally fitted if so? I searched and there are posts about Mini car Cats - wher would I fit it?
Or
Will a decent dynojet setup get me down to decent levels with a rejet and setup?

ah ok, the engine i might be able to get my hands on is 2004

2004 means tough emissions, you need pre- Aug-1995 if you want the easy emissions

i.e.
1200ppm HC's
3% CO

Loads of people have got engines like yours through SVA (same emisions as IVA), but it is non-trivial. Decent sized cats, power commanders, and luck all seem to play their parts.

Ok then, it can be done and plenty have (IVA and the old SVA emission limits are the same). If it's a carbed engine then it's not as easy to control the emissions as an injection. You'll most likely have to play with the jetting and then keep fingers crossed; Injection with power commander lets you play with the mixture easier. The bike cat' won't be big enough to bring the CO down to the required car limits and you'll need a car cat'.

Required limits are...

Fast idle 2500-3000rpm
CO <0.3%
HC <200ppm
Lambda 0.97-1.03

Idle
CO <0.5

ok then, if i go for this engine i need a car cat

is there any specific car model i should look at?

does anyone have a photo of one fitted, so i can have a rough idea of the work involved?
