Kit car weight ?
Relph - 28/9/09 at 03:09 PM

Need help choosing a kit and want it to be as light as possible. Does anyone know the approx weight of a fully built Mac1, MK Indy and MNR Vortx RT Inboard with a fireblade 893 bike engine fitted ?
Thanks

450-550kg depending on what running gear, engine and trim level you go for. Too many posible variations to be any more precise.

Light as possible = Live Axle Striker.

For comparison, my MK with a heavy bike engine and LOTS of heavy shiny bits was 565kgs. My X-flow engined Striker with basic roll bar and nothing shiny was 482kgs.

My MK blade, 500kgs

Agreed, unless you go for something like the mid engine riot, andy c who races in rgb has a road going zzr1100 that's under 400kg!

Tim Grays class C striker hit the scales at 531kg all up, driver in and 3 litres of fuel and carrying 15 kg of lead to ballast it to required minimum weight.
That was a 919 powered IRS car

My 893cc locost weighs in at 468kgs! I'm well chuffed and whilst the build is minimalist, there are still weight savings to be had!

My sylva Striker with 4age, T50 gearbox and live axle weighs 500kg with petrol on board

So bike engined live axle striker should be a lot lighter

MAC 1 do a Worx model which has some weight saving ideas thrown in. With a 1000cc engine and full roll cage it weighs 450kg. Its also a really nice bit of kit and a good company to deal with

My Locost with a 2.0 Pinto, additional impact protection, steel scuttle, Capri axle, Big comfy seals and fully trimmed weighs 700kgs

So there!

My very minimalist ZZR1100 powered book spec Locost weighed in at SVA at 410kgs with a full tank of fuel.
