hi there,
someone can tell me if mounting point are the same for a 2001 r1 engine and a 2005/2006 engine?
i have a good opportunity to get a 2005 engine, but don't want to cut my chassis to fit it (mnr vortx)

No they are different. The engine is at a different angle too so exhaust won't fit either

As ko_racer says, they are different. Not by a lot but enough to need new mounts. Wiring and cooling will also need changing as well as the
exhaust.
Don't ask how I know!

The first question is why would you want to do it anyway?
The R1 engine you have is only a few bhp less than the 2005 model (don't believe the exagerated manufactruer claims that use RAM air at 180mph)
Upto 7-8K revs the older engine actually has better torque and power.
The 2004/5/6 engines are more difficult to get to run reliably as well, they tend to spit out oil from the crank breather at high revs (which can lead
to oil starvation) and generally run hotter oil and water temps that can cause problems.
If you want to improve the driveability of the motor (some people have problems setting up the carbs) then a 2002/3 injected model will resolve that
issue and will fit your existing mounts and exhaust set-up. Its only worth doing though if your old engine is knackered.
So bottom line is if you are doing this to gain better performance don't bother, it will be marginal and only be apparent when you are thrashing
it at high revs. At the same time you may be introducing some gremlins into your BEC that you could do well without.

sorry guys, i ve made a mistake: my engine is not a 2001 (carbed vesion IICR) but a 2002-3 IE version.
maybe it's easier to go for a 2005-6 engine?
paul, thanks for your advice.i don't want to get more BHP, but my engine will need a rebuild within a year (race use only) and i 'll go for
the SC route next year too, so i think it could be a good thing to upgrade a nearly new engine and fit it in my car rather than bolt my SC on a 8000+
miles engine...just my 2p opinion.

Still won't be any easier, new mounts and exhaust will need altering. You will have a return line for the fuel though.....
Strapping a supercharger to the newer R1 will need a very well thought out install - for starters you will need to increase the cooling capacity (both
water and oil) for the engine.
