Electric reverse on an incline
Davg - 18/10/09 at 07:57 PM

For those that actually have an electric reverse ala starter motor type. Does your cope with incline or just worky on the flat?
Just done a home brew copy of the MK style one on one of the cars and it is ok on the flat, but struggles with an incline! (plenty juice from car battery) just doesn't like the slope & guess what it up at the start of my drive
cheers

Ive got an electric reverse, and like you say - it doesnt like reversing up an incline

Thanks Davey, ok for reversing out of a flat car park then but not that much of a bonus other than that. Thought it would have been a bit better than is, although wasn't expecting miracles!

Would a "high torque" starter motor help ?

You'll find it is the quality/size of your battery that makes a difference

Can you not just reverse in down the incline then drive out - simples

I have an 'MSA requirement' reverse, i.e it's a motorcycle starter arrangement. It wouldn't cope with normal road use, period, but then it isn't there for that.

My own opinion, worth nothing, is that for actual day-to-day road use, driveways, inclines, car parks, etc., you need a mechanical gearbox. My mechanical gearbox was fantastic on the road (just fragile on the track).

Mine will go up a small incline, but i find it best to jump out and give it a helping push while holding the reverse button down. Well that was until the gear stopped enagaging, now it just makes a horrible grinding noise!
