Ok folks, although my Indy isn;t yet on the road, constant haranguing from my mates has me thinking about getting a dynojet kit. from what i can
gather, its a set o carb jets and a k&n filter. as im using the standard airbox etc, that shouldent be a prob- only thing that worries me is that
it is not a bike exhaust system, and will therefore have different characteristics.
is it a good idea to do?? will it make any difference to power torque etc? will the engine run ok?? need rolling roaded???
as usual any suggestions, tips, ideas, slaggings etc all gratefully received!

You will probably need a rolling road session.
If you are using the standard airbox then you may well get away without intalling one at all. As phelpsa says, it may still be worth running it up on
a rolling road before you really give it some beans just in case the new exhaust makes it breath a bit better and so run a bit lean (could be nasty),
but with the standard airbox you arent going to be a million miles out on jetting so spending £100 or so on a Dynojet kit probably isnt worthwhile.

cost.
Lastly, will we have problems with emissions at SVA?

If you run an engine lean especially a bike engine that has high compression ratio's then you will get detonation (pinking). You will end up burning the exaust valves (I know Ive done it on a very high compression engine a few years ago) and in extreme cases it is possible to hole a piston!!!
leaning an engine out leads to detonation, and possible melted pistons and valve damage, plus you are also losing power.
rolling road sessions vary, with a power run about £35 ish, and a full setup can be £200, so I'm imagining the most yu'll need would be
somewhere in between.
I wouldnt say its essential, but definately worthwhile

Yup I agree with the others, running lean can cause piston / valve damage due to detonation. You'd probably feel it if it was running really lean
(wouldnt rev out cleanly etc) but if its slightly less then it could seem to run OK but in the long term do some damage.

Thanks for the advice fellas. It will be worth getting it on a rolling road then at some point in the near future.
Doesn't it need to run lean to pass emissions test at SVA?
if the engine did run lean, are the carbs adjustable for mixture to counter it? (not very clued up on bike carbs!)

scotlad We have one rolling road outfit next door to the saltmine up in Glenrothes. I will pop next door to see what they say.

Rolling road chap does the power run for 50 quid (1 hour) but he doesnt do the jetting ect. He says to contact the legends boys (Robin Drysdale) at
Knockhill to do the jetting. All the lads using the rolling road bring their tuners to do the adjustments.

As I remember there is a chap called Dave Bloggs who is a sh*t hot bloke for jetting cards on bike engines. He lives somewhere in N Yorkshire and
charges a couple of hours labour to do a set-up.
