Blackbird Engines
T66 - 10/11/09 at 08:03 AM

I have recently joined the CBRXX forum and downloaded the service handbook for the Bird

What other forums/sites do folk use here to gather tech data/tuning help on the bird engine?

Totally new to the BEC world and need to know more about them.

Ive searched here but theres not a huge amount.

I am particularly interested in turbo/supercharged bird engine tuning.

Thank You

If you're using it in a north south configuration it will need dry sumping, or accusump, otherwise they destroy No.3 bigend!

Yes was already aware of that issue, Chain drive rear end, so across the car.

Its dry sumped already.

But still looking for a good website/forum to read up on the engine...

Any takers ??

http://www.holeshot-racing.co.uk/

they do a turbo kit.

what surprised me after doing some research. If you have the carbs model it is extremely easy to do a blow through conversion, just by attaching the hoses to the plenum(to equalise the pressure on both sides of the carb)
i mean the hoses that usually vent to the atmosphere.

im going to accusump my engine which is already baffled. and see how it goes.

I managed to buy a unused new Rotrex C30 this week so its going to be supercharged.

Still plenty to do /buy & plan at the moment.

Now Im just wondering whether the Siemens-Deka 630cc injectors I bought for my Saab will work ok with the Blackbird.

They are not renowned for their smooth tickover.

Stay in touch we may be able to compare notes

How are you going to drive the supercharger? Since the 'bird engine, like most bike engines, doesn't have an exposed crank pulley there's no obvious place to put a belt to drive a supercharger.

I have a blackbird engine in one of my cars, but haven't tried tuning it. My only advice is to make sure the oil pressure remains good - I blew two engines before giving up and dry sumping it. But since yours is dry-sumped already that shouldn't be an issue.

is that going to be FI or carbs?

I have a friend who had his Blackbird (in a bike) very successfully supercharged by TTS (44 (0) 1327 858212). It now puts out something like 210bhp.
