2003 R1... oil baffled sump plate - quick quiery...
Major Stare - 6/1/10 at 11:08 PM
Just fitted sump baffle plate to my 2003 R1.
When re-fitting the oil pick up, this bolts upto the plate, instead of bolting up directly.
Is this right, or should i have opened the holes so the pickup doesnt clamp the plate?

Yes thats right the pick up bolts through the baffle plate holding it in place!

Cheers all.
Oil now in upto top of sight.
Warm up, check and add 150ml above sight?

No, that is too much oil (if you do this when idling). Top of sight glass when idling is the correct amount. Anymore and you risk getting excess
crankcase pressure and spewing oil out of the crank breather. Doing the oil check when idling is much better than trying to get a level after you
switch the engine off (it moves depending how long the engine has been standing...)
I've raced these engines for several years and never suffered oil surge as long as oil is above mid point on sight glass when idling.
Cheers
Paul
