R1 Breathing/Performance advice

Hi, has anyone done testing on open filters v original airboxes properly ducted? To reduce noise for track days ive been thinking about fitting the original airbox and if i did what is the best size ducting to use? Also what is optimal diameter exhaust size for headers and the end of the collector as I am wondering if mine is restrictive as it is smaller than the original R1 silencer inlet diameter.
Thanks

What MY of R1 are we talking about here? 2003 or earlier or 2004+? They're very different...

Nothing proven but on my 2003 5PW i had a TTS air filter. Sounded great, reved like crazy.
Decided that Mr Yamaha must have spent some ££ designing the R1 airbox, so fitted one.
I turned it round 180deg, cut a hole in the bonnet to make it fit & made sure longer trumpets were fitted to ports 1 & 2.

The difference was very noticeable, i now have more torque. In second and third gears i can really feel it pulling me into my seat. Others i have spoken to have said this is the way forward.
