R1 AIS- Remove it ?
bodger - 4/3/10 at 06:31 PM

Those of you with carb'd R1's did you remove it before IVA ? I've been told it's best to get rid of it but I thought it was designed to help with emissions so can't understand why you would, especially before IVA. If I do remove it, can the ports be blocked up without tapping a thread? I don't want to remove the head to clean out swarf, etc.

I'd leave them on untill after the sva, cant remember what i did with my r1 but i know i had to put the busa's back on for it to have a chance of passing the emissions

doesnt it only work if its on a standard exhaust? I ditched mine and did have emissions problems but thats because i was sold an incorrect air box sensor after that was replaced it was quite easy.

To block it off i stuck some short rubber tubes on the 4 ends and plugged the hole with a few bolts and jubilees.

keep it on till after iva, itll help reduce hydrocarbons.
It works fine on custom exhausts, but itll give you a dodgy reading if you ever dyno it. it does clear up a lot of space on the side of the engine. when i took mine off i just kept the hoover on the holes when tapping them.

To block the holes tap with a m8 and loads of sticky grease.
The swarf will be blown into the can any way if it gets dropped in.

some copper washers and away you go
