ZX9R clutch intermittent slip
The clutch has Barnett springs and has over the last week started to slip now and then when revving in higher gears. Tonight started to slip in lower
gears if a bit more gas was added. I checked the clutch lever and cable in the engine and couldn't see any signs of it sticking but it did get
better again after this. It felt as if the pedal stayed further down so I was wondering if the cables are prone to sticking and not engaging the
clutch fully?
Would I be right in saying that if it was the clutch was wearing or springs not strong enough that the symptoms would be all the time and not
intermittent?
try adjusting the clutch play first, you only need a small bit of travel

What oil are you using, bike or car??

Regarding the oil, the additives in car oil can destroy wet clutches, I had a old GSXR1100 which had run on car oil, and it somehow caused the
friction material to part from the plates.
That apart the friction reducing agents in the car oil will make the clutch less effective by their very nature.
you need a couple of mm play (slack) in the clutch cable at rest
Twice a year I replaced the oil with semi synthetic bike oil. She's probably done nigh on 8000 miles on that clutch so could be due for a new
one.
PS
Going to pick up my new car on Saturday, so do you fancy that blat at some stage?
