5VY R1 exploded diagram of clutch anywhere?
bitsilly - 27/3/10 at 01:32 PM

I stripped out the broken clutch and basket. It is a barnett set up. I have the replacement clutch soaking in oil. However, in my box of bits from the last owner, there is a length of wire, about a foot long and 'clutch retaining wire' is written on the packet.
I didn't see one of them stripping it??
Any exploded diagrams anywhere?
Cheers
Ed

Can't help with the barnett set up

but when i blew up my clutch, i was advised to remove the sump as parts of the friction plates can fall down.

thankfully i did as lots of bits were stuck to the oil pick up strainer

depending how bad ur clutch failed of course

Yep cheers, I had already asked about that on another thread. Just to complicated things, it is a dry sump!

The thin wire you refer to is the retainer for the anti-judder plates at the back of the clutch (basically a smaller than normal clutch plate with some other metal rings).

It maybe the case that this had been removed by the previous owner and a normal clutch plate put in its place. This is often done by racers as it helps beef up the clutch. If you look at your clutch plates you will probably find they are all normal size. If this is the case you don't need this wire and you will need 1 more clutch plate than comes with a normal set of clutch plates from the dealer (don't use the small one in the pack). I often put one of the better old plates at the back of the clutch to make up the correct number :-)

P.S. This refers to the 5pw clutch - I believe the 5VY is very similar

Nice one paul, thanks.
It is an ex-rgb car, and all the clutch plates were all the same size.
I was a worried that there was an mashed wire somewhere in there!

Have a look on the Bike Bandit (US) website. They have exploded diagrams for most bikes. Hope it helps....

Took me a while to find it due to the Stella effect, but spot on diagrams. Thanks a million!
