well i will be honest, its not realy a kit, and it wont start off being a BEC either... let me explain.
if you dont want to read my thought trail, skip 6 paragraphs to the web link
i was looking for a road legal track car where i can insure myself for a weekend, take it to the track day, have a load of fun, and drive home...(or
stay for a weekend near the track if its far away)
after looking around at the seven style cars, i looked at the sylva cars, i looked at the MEV atomic, trying to find a car i liked, but was also cheap
!
im on a tight budget, about £4000 maximum i will have for the initial build to get it to a drivable state...
all the options above where out the window, as i wanted to build it, not buy it...
so i almost gave up on the idea of a kit car, as nothing was in my budget, so i thought i could just do up an old mini (as i have one now im restoring
to sell in the summer) whilst i was looking for mini based upgrades, i looked at the Z cars website, very nice, but out of budget (loved the look of
there montecarlo !!)
so i looked (when i say looked i mean googled) space frame mini's. there was 1 other alternative i found, TDK racing. he sells space frame
chassis, fibreglass bodies, carbon fibre bits etc.
http://www.tdkracing.com/
i then got this crazy idea that i could buy the body panels, buy the space frame chassis and then also buy a ex-autograss mini (for about £500) and
then transfer all the autograss mini bits onto the new space frame mini (including engine) that way i could get a fully working, space frame mini for
around £3300 and then slowly upgrade it like engine, more seats etc etc etc... then i thought it was too good to be true...
so i emailed him and had a phonecall and he confirmed what i was thinking to be right !!
so thats where im at, i can't wait to finish restoring this mini, and sell it, pluss the money im earning is going 80% towards this project...
thanks for reading and staying awake throughout the read
chris
Nice! me likey a lot. £800 for a full set of panels - bargain
Have fun, and dont be alarmed when your budget runs out!. Most of us on here went over budget.
Mine went £3k overbudget. (£8k total)
refurb and re-use as much of the donor as possible.
Above all have fun.. there is plenty of help on here, and dont forget to put lots of pictures in your archive... We like Piccys!
Good Luck with the build.
