Anyone have any idea of good / honest BHP figures for a Blackbird? I had mine mapped yesterday (Motec M4) and we achieved 143 bhp at the crank which is about 20bhp less than Honda claim. This is all fairly academic really as the car is still much quicker than I am but it would be nice to know if that's the genuine ballpark of if more should be available from somewhere.
Won't it depend on what year the engine is? Most superbikes engines evolve quickly due to the BHP competition that they inevitably produce.
I believe a lot can depend on the exhaust you are using - I have been told that this can lose you 20bhp or so
have allways wondered what the fireblade hp should be....
143 for a bird is quite good most bikes never make the book figure
You should be getting in excess of 150 at the crank. Do you know what the rear wheel HP was?
Intake (filter/airbox) and how you feed cold air to it + exhaust can make a considerable difference to what you achieve.
Boggle - a blade engines will make ~115 RWHP if well set up.

should be well above a r1 in terms of bhp, well upto the 2004 motor, It does sound a little low as a bird with a decent system should make about 153bhp at the wheel on a bike so you should be making about 135ish at the wheels in a BEC, you'll need a 4-2-1 though.
i got 127 bhp @ wheels on my std bird on carbs, was around 149 @ crank, with piper x filter and 4-1 exhaust running a 7" straight through can
though this helpes alot over using a std r1 can,
cheers

Hi Justin, Yes it was Mech. I've actually just bought an original airbox from eBay. It'll be interesting to see what that does. As far as I can tell I'm going to need to do some modifying to make it fit the car but I like the logic of making use of Honda's huge R+D budget, and using as much standard stuff as is possible.
