Paddle shifters fit the steering column?
a rod end above and below the collumn (fitted to a plate around the collumn) and the shifter is fitted to the rod ends is a good way. doesn't
*actually* fit to the collumn.
having said that i haven't got one, don't really like them myself either, so never thought too much about them, but thats how i seen them
before
Also depends on if you mean with or without a shroud?
I think photos of fittings would be good at this point

Had a look at my steering column today.
The column that comes out the dash turns with the steering wheel.
The outer collar is behind the dash and clamped to a metal bar/support directly behind the dash, with the collar going down to the foot well before
the centre column exits and joins the rest of the steering column.
My options seem to be.... extend the outer colomn from behind the dash to the other side of the dash, then fit paddle shifter.
Perhaps weld a tube to the end of the outer column???
Hope this makes sence
