Busa Airbox
Nick DV - 9/5/10 at 05:45 PM

Has anyone designed, re-jigged a standard one, or thrown together a low fitting airbox for a Busa? I need to get the noise down on mine and a normal sausage air filter just don't cut it!! I have some idea what I might do but just wondered if anyone else has done it - it might save me some time!

For those that have done it, did you find any difference in power compared with the sausage filter?

Cheers, Nick

Absolutely mate, that's exactly what I was looking at. Was gonna look at doing it in ali, but this is much better, so many thanks for the prompt reply,

Cheers, Nick

should make more power with an airbox if similar to the OE one.

I have spoken on this subject before. Please see my photo archive which shows how to modify an existing airbox.
I was very concerned about reducing air induction noise and also about producing a ram air syatem with cold air from outside rather than warm air from under the bonnet. I have achieved all of this using the standard airbox.
if you want more info, U2U me.

kind regards, cosmick

I started to make a mould for a pre preg CF airbox last year but then I was weigh laid with working in CF fullt ime

(to be fair I was also distracted by building an RGB chassis and having a baby!)

I will continue with it when time allows in about 3 weeks, but do not hold your breath!!!

Here's a quick look at my 1st attempt of CEC airbox...

I have just managed to re-jig and old Busa airbox, in which I have been able to retain the bit that utilises the Busa air filter, and inlet ducts. I have removed the internal flap so outside air will be ducted straight in as originally except for a slightly smaller and 'reversed' airbox.

I can see no reason why this should not work as some sort of airbox is better than none - as is the concensus here. I hope that it still works with the original filter set up, again I see no reason why not. Anyway, I will give it a go

I am not sure what the type of plastic the box is made of, but can one of you tell me would fibre glass and filler bond to this if I give it a good key as I would like to repair and smooth out the areas I have modified?

Cheers, Nick

Nick me ole pal!

The plastic is ridgid, so any epoxy/PU adhesive etc will stick to it as long as its keyed up.

In the meantime I was busy in the garage today...............................

Bit of a way to go but you get the idea!

That looks familiar!!!

Started this a year and a bit ago - still not touched it since these last photos!!! (ETA - I tell a lie, I'd also done the other parts - It's a 4 part () mould so that people can have the 100mm inlet at whatever angle suits them!)

i used an r1 airbox, just turned it upside down and it fit straight on,i took off the little airflow plate that's riveted to the airfilter lid , made the 2 induction holes bigger and fitted some 90 degree hose .. my thoughts about it was any airbox has to be better than a sausage filter squashed up against the bonnet . the biggest difference was that the noise had drastically reduced and it may of run smoother through the gears

Glad you posted these pics - I hadn't realised that my P4NTS site was down...

Nick DV - 2/7/11 at 06:15 PM

Hi Ian, looks good, does it all fit under the scoop ok? Did you make the airbox or did Marcus make it?

Cheers, Nick

iiyama - 2/7/11 at 06:26 PM

Watcha mate,
it appears to fit under the scoop ok, I made it. Got fed up waiting!!!

cosmick - 4/7/11 at 09:54 AM

Hi Ian,

Looks good in Carbon old chap. I bet the car sounds completely different now. No induction noise perhaps?

iiyama - 4/7/11 at 03:33 PM

Thats the plan but Ive yet to get it along side a noise meter! Probably have to remap as well.....where does it all end?? LOL!

iiyama - 30/3/12 at 04:29 PM

To update even further, have noise tested this now in the same place as before with the same meter. Have lost around 8db.
