
Hi, has anyone here fitted a YZF1000R Thunderace engine to a locost and if so, what did you do about the exup valve?
I am not sure whether to build a free flow system or to include a exup valve (which I don't have!).

Hi there. I think it is fairly standard practice, particularly amongst the RGB racers, to junk the Exup valve but retain the actuator.
We have done just this on our Fireblade engined Phoenix. The Hivex valve is in the bin, the actuator on the bulkhead.

Hi Geoff, thanks for the reply. Do you need to keep the actuator to fool the ecu or is there any other reason to keep it?
I have read that with a correctly sized exhaust the exup valve makes only a slight difference so probably going that way. I just don't want to
lose too much torque especially as it only has a five speed box!
There's an electrical widget you can make up to ffol the ECU that the EXUP is still there on the R1. Guess it can be done for other engines.

That is great info there thanks! I did much the same with a similar circuit when I removed my charge cooler pump on my GT4 and fitted a FMIC instead.
Without the pump the ecu throws an error code and goes into limp home mode.
The R1 circuit should work just as well on my Thunderace! I'll confirm that in a few weeks/months when I get it in and running.
