
What do most people have as the minimum clearance between the bottom of the sump and the black stuff, that they can get away with, without any serious
grounding?
I have 60 - 65mm, (2 1/2 inches in old money), and will have a skid pate in place for extra protection.
I know that the problem could be made worse with a soft suspension set up, but most kit cars hardly move on the suspension,

Thats not alot. MIne has about 10cm. It did have less and it did bottom out.
I think I've got about 4" including a skid plate. I occasionally scrape the plate but I'm happier having the plate there than not. I think 2.5" would be a bit low
I do need to adjust the suspension to get the correct height but I will only gain about 15mm, 20mm at the most. I think I will have to suck it and
see!!

My ground clearance:
1 1/2"
To be fair, it is now 2" and should be about 3" when i fit front suspension.

Nick, Hi. In my experience unless you are racing, on the road, the car will handle better with the dampers set to fully or almost fully soft because
you will have no control if the car bounces from bump to bump. Spring rates have to be sensible too ie not too high. As a trade off you'll need a
bit more ground clearance perhaps four inches but I doubt you'll notice much difference in handling and you'll not have the stress of
worrying about bottoming out on raised ironwork or sleeping policemen.
With a compliant suspension set-up you'll have a very comfortable ride and the car will be a pleasure to drive. I have to stress that this is
only my opinion but derived from experience.
ps whilst writing this I note that you have added that the car will be for track use only.

If it is for track, it shouldnt be much of a problem at the height you have it. most circuits are pretty smooth.
If you have a steel sump it would not take much work to cut and shut it to give extra clearance. An alloy sump is harder but still fairly easy. My clearance is about 3inches but is for track use only.
hi, i have 1 1/2" ground clearance, no only one grounding, which did make a pin hole leak in the sump.

80mm. No rubbing, can just get over beam at MOT time.
3" and ground fairly often when I forget and go over those stupid little square speedhumps that tend to be placed on blind bends etc which is
really safe when having to straddle them in the middle so you can get over them!!

10cm for me. We have killer speed "cushions" on our road. But my sump is a billet one and its bottom is level with the bottom chassis
rail.
Remember you track only chaps that you need to get the car on and off the trailer.
14" for me, I hope when it's finished it doesn't bottom out!
