I took the oil cooler bolt from my 03 R1 to get a 1/8" NPT hole tapped in the head to accept a take off hose for my oil pressure gauge. I also
dropped off the sensor in case they needed it to judge the correct depth to tap for the tapered thread.
I've just been back to collect my bolt, but the guy at the machine shop claims my sensor was infact M10x1.0 and he's tapped the bolt head to
this instead.
Right enough, the sensor screws in but it doesn't tighten up on the threads the way I expected a tapered thread to. Instead, it screws all the
way down and tightens up as a normal bolt would.
I've yet to purchase the take off hose, so I might just be able to get one made with an M10x1.0 end fitting, but I'm now worried I
won't be able to seal it properly without the tapered thread.
Think I'll get away with this, maybe with some gasket sealant, or should I start hunting for another oil cooler bolt?
I originally thought I must have ordered the wrong sensor. I've now checked the ETB website, and they don't sell an M10x1.0 pressure sensor,
so that can't be the problem. I'm therefore guessing that 1/8NPT and M10x1.0 must be quite similar?
Jek
Edited to add: just noticed on ETB website that the sensor is a 1/8" NPTF thread, not NPT as I originally specified to the shop. A quick google
suggests that NPT and NPTF are compatible though.
Edited again to add: Andy Bates to the rescue! Andy's going to TIG a boss onto the head of the bolt for me with the correct thread in it. Best
not to take any chances with a potential oil slick!

M10 x 1 isnt tapered, so it will just tighten up like a bolt.
the F part of NPTF allegedly stands for Fuel. Ive asked the guys at the machine shop next door about it, but they believe its one, and the same. Ive
seen a cad drawing somewhere online of the threads of both NPT, and NPTF. The only difference is one has a slightly flatter thread than the other, but
they are both compatible
Loctite any grade that is " Lock & Seal" such as Locite 243, I would also use a 10mm copper washer or you could use a Dowty Seal
