Hi, not sure whitch way to go just yet bec or cec. But if bec whats your thoughts on a ZX7R?
Not enough power
No torque...
you would prob be better off with R1,cbr1000, zx12/14 or busa if bec, if cec there is many options and i have gone for a honda s2000! its not as expensive as many think and i would bet i have spent far far less than many bec's. and i have owned 2! so know first hand
the zx7r is a strong lump and makes about 120bhp at the wheel in a bike with a decent system. Great engines but maybe not the best for a BEC.
Put it back in the bike...those things are gorgeous...
There's a reason people transplant 9R engines into a 7R....

Have you thought of using a zzr1100 engine surposed to have good torque and push out around 145bhp.They seem to be cheap also.
Nothing wrong with the ZX7, but you would need a very lightweight car for it to be viable.
Seen them used in single seaters to good effect.

Power and torque will be just fine.
The problem with the smaller bike engine's is that the gearboxes generally aren't string enough for a car application and run a higher
chance of packing up on you.
Best go for the litre+ bikes.
I always had a 'thing' for the ZX7R... you still see immaculate looking low-milers coming up at the £2.5k mark. Maybe one day... or will it be an SP1... or will I just stick with 4 wheels!!!

Thanks, some interesting thoughts there and different apinions. My thoughts are that the bike weighs in at around 200kg+fuel+rider+pillion and bags,
so you would be looking at about 400kg mark and these bike's still pull and cover ground at mind blowing speeds.
Kawasaki did put alot of money and develoment in to this bike and reliability has never really been an issue.
My car is weighing in at 500kg and thats with a big cast iron triumhp spit engine/box. Plus im sure i could lose more weight else where to.
They are also alot cheaper than the litre+bikes.

You really don't have much torque with that engine and what little you do have is up the rev range around 10,000 rpm.
Your maths is also heavily biased to support your argument, rider 75 kg, bags 20kg fuel 30 kg total weight 325 kg
You car 500 kg + 125 = 625, even if you lost a massive
100kg the engine stills has to pull an extra 200kg
But if you want to do it I for one will be interested in the weight, cost, performance combination.

Fuel, Rider, Pillion is same in the car though. You're always going to have the 200kg differnce.

but i just belive that this engine is very under estimated and the power figures don't always tell the full story.
It was a great lump in 750-terms when it was released, but times have moved on and it's definitely showing it's age now!
If I had to go BEC then I would be looking at a ZX12, a Busa or a ZZR14.
I would say that the ZX7 motor would be next to useless in anything other than a super-lightweight single-seater race car!
The 4 zx7rs I had all made 120 at the wheel give or
take with a decent system, very strong gearbox's though. I once had a zx7rr with a hawk motor that made 147bhp at the wheel!! Wish I still had

I here this so many times. I do know of one that makes 126.1@11,199rpm and 62.22@8,890rpm and thats standard.
But may be they are showing there age now and not the best for bec.
