Power Commander Cable and Map

Just bought a Power Commander for my R1 5PW off eBay (wont get it till next week).

Doesn't come with a lead to link to my PC, what do i need?

Also, best place to get a map?

the lead is just a usb to small usb one...the one from most cameras etc.
as for a map, go here...

you need to take it and your car to http://www.daytuner.co.uk/ and let damian map it for you, he did an excellent job on my zx10, came out at 146 bhp at the wheels !!

i will eventually get it rolling roaded.......... but in the mean time, if i download a map and plug it in, will it be worse of than without?

Probably best to fing someone else with a 5PW and similar induction and exhaust as you and beg a map from them. Then get it mapped on rolling road as soon as you can.

The ones available to download won't be for a car set up and there's as much chance of them being right for you setup as the original map.

you do still notice a huge difference if you download the maps and try a few.
The best ive found is M405-505.

Power Commander has turned up......model number 405-310.

It has a 9pin socket to link to a PC. Is there such a thing as a 9pin to USB?

Iam struggling to find instructions on fitting...... bought second hand with no lead/cd/instructions.

You've got one of the older non-USB versions. Yes, you can get a serial to USB adapter, £10-20 depending on make. Search Amazon or Ebay, you might get one in a local PC World or Maplin etc.

Easy enough to fit, they're all the same. The main harness on the Power Commander plugs into the main injection loom and it needs an earth. You'll need a 9v battery to power it when the engine isn't running as it takes its power supply from the FI and that's only on for a few seconds when you turn ignition on till the engine is running.

Non of the links on the PC website are working

Untill then i need to work out what the other connectors are for, there are more than one for the injector loom.

Also, where/hoe do i connect a 9v battery?

Hmmm, links not working from here either ... try the links on www.dynojet.com or on www.powercommander.com
I've checked through the stuff I've got on my hard drive here and there's no installation guide there unfortunately.

The ones I've used have been PC3USB and for a Busa but there have been 2 connectors for the injection loom, a male and a female, you unplug the loom to the injectors and one end plugs into one of the PC connectors, the other side plugs into the other, so you're basically just connecting the unit in series with the injection loom.

I can't recall from memory but I think mine has a little socket on it that a connector for one of the 9V rectangular batteries plugs in to.
