
just had my 2008 R1 engine delivered (cheers malc), and trying to get my head around all the wiring Etc.
but what do i do about fuel pump?
anyone got any advice on this?

my plan is to use my existing tank, with existing low pressure pump, which fills a small swirl pot with the original bike pump fitted in.
Either use the original pump or a high presure pump from a tin top. Original can be either mounted in the tank (needs tank making/modifying to take
it) or via a low presure pump to a swirl pot made to take it (for road use its probably over complicated for the sake of occational starvation).
I'm running with bosch pump from an Escort turbo. Easy to mount in line from any tank.

Sorry - this is turning into a thread hijack...
MK9R - Do you need to change your lines or have you got high pressure ones already in place?
I've been told that you can use a self regulating pump from another bike. Since I've got a ZX12-R pump of the correct sort and an aluminium
flange to suit that's what I'll be using. I'm planning to borrow Procomp's fuel tank design, assuming that there is enough room
in front of the axle.

have you got a return line on the fuel or is it self regulating?? I've been told the 5VY pump is not self regulating so needs a return, is this correct?

so i can have an external pump as long as i have a return back to the fuel tank?
if so what pump is recommended?
as i would rather this than fit one in the actual tank.

just read it again, and am i right in thinking its a case of:
a low pressure pump (escort turbo?) in the fuel line, then a swirl pot by the bulk head, then into the injectors?

so i need a low and high pressure pump.
can this be any pumps or do they need to be a certain pressure for the R1 engine?

The swirl tank is only needed if you suspect you will get fuel starvation, similiarly you could have a similiar swirl pot built into your tank so only need for the high pressure pump. I have the pump from the bike which i intend to fit into a swirl pot, purely as my tank is already in the car so don't want to replace it. AB performance do a swirl pot that takes a CBR pump in also means there is no need for a return hose. I'll call Andy about it today as i may go that way.

I've just got feed out of tank into high presure pump then to injection filter and then to fuel rail then return from fuel rail to tank.
My pumps from Escort turbo but there's plenty of in line bosch pumps that are up to the job. The tank has a small well on the bottom (10cmx10cm
ish) where the pick up pipe is and this reduces the effect of fuel surge. Only have a problem with very hard cornering (track days) below 1/8th tank
fuel.
Swirl pot, etc is just over complicated unless you're racing. Twice as much wiring, more pipe work, you've got to find somewhere to put the
swirl pot... and there's the extra wieght. KISS!

as i take it the regulator in the fuel rail will make sure its getting the correct pressure?

Yes, thats what I've got.
Mount it as low as possible as they don't like to suck fuel so gravity feed helps. Put a small filter between the tank and pump to stop any
debris from the tank getting in and then after the tank I've got an in-line filter from an injected Astra, which has a push fit each end.

cheers, also just checked the fuel rail has a pressure regulator, is this it?
also this black box? am i right that it has the input from the fuel pump on the one side, then the one input on the other to the fuel rail, then the
other back to the fuel tank?
